ESL Courses at ELTC
Course Description
ELTC's
ESL Courses (ESL Core, ESL Intensive, ESL Super Intensive) have five
levels. The Courses run in four-week modules. New students are placed
in the appropriate level after taking a placement test and an oral
interview. Most students usually take 2 modules, 8 weeks, to complete
one level.
The ESL
Core Course provides 20 hours per week of comprehensive English
instruction. In the ESL Intensive Course and the ESL Super Intensive
Course, students are able to take their choice of optional classes in
addition to core English instruction. Optional classes include
Listening & Conversation, Vocabulary & Expressions,
Pronunciation, and TOEFL Preparation.
The above courses also include free tutorial classes (5 hours per week).
The ESL Courses at ELTC are designed for students who need/want to learn English for communication in an international context.
To improve all four of
the students' language skills. The students will become more confident
and comfortable to express themselves and communicate
with others in English.
Elementary Level
The purpose of this class
is to develop basic proficiency, in all four skills, in order to
complete simple tasks successfully. Upon completion of the level, you
will be able to express yourself both in writing and speaking with
simple words, although some assistance may be still required. In
addition, you will be able to read and understand simple instructions.
Pre-Intermediate Level
This
class helps you acquire fundamental English skills in order to carry
out daily tasks fairly independently. Upon completion of the
level, you will be able to express yourself with simple sentences with
very little or no assistance both in speaking and writing.
Lower Intermediate Level
This class helps you
develop intermediate proficiency in all four skills. You will start
understanding complex sentence structures and also be able to use them
both in writing and speaking. You will also learn basic skills to
prepare and give oral presentations.
Upper-Intermediate Level
At this level, you will
enter the transition period between intermediate proficiency and
advanced proficiency. The class introduces paragraph writings, note
taking, formal presentations and critical thinking, while still
teaching grammar and vocabulary. Upon completion of the level, you will
be able to express yourself in a fairly intelligent and professional
manner.
Advanced Level
The class helps students
to function independently and effectively in a business and academic
setting. You will develop critical thinking skills and clarity of
expression both in writing and in speaking through discussions,
debates, and essay writing. You will also learn business terminology
and how to write business correspondences.
